Anyone with a valid Madison Public Library (MPL) card can now check out a disc golf kit, available at all nine branches of the Madison Public Library system. One kit is provided per branch. The checkout period is 7 days and is currently not renewable.
Each kit consists of a Play Madison Parks bag, four discs – a driver, a fairway driver, a mid-range, and a putter, plus local course maps, rules and etiquette, and information about the lending program. Once checked out, disc golfers can play any City of Madison disc golf course - Hiestand, Elver and Yahara Hills (winter) or a Dane County disc golf course - Capital Springs and Vallarta-Ast.
Normally these courses require users to purchase an annual or daily permit for each park system. For those who check out a disc golf kit, your library receipt serves as proof of a permit to access both Madison and Dane County courses for free during the checkout period. Park Rangers at all courses do check permits, so having the receipt is essential! Users can enjoy as many rounds of disc golf as they please and can return the kits to Madison Public Library at the end of their 7-day period. Each kit is equivalent to one permit so if MPL cardholders want to share the discs, all other users will still need to purchase a disc golf permit or check out a kit of their own.
