Event Description
Join the Friends of Cherokee Marsh for their Annual Meeting!
Paul Quinlan from Madison Parks and Claire Lamberg from Dane County Parks will provide updates on news, happenings, and opportunities in Cherokee Marsh Conservation Park and Dane County properties at Cherokee Marsh/Yahara Heights.
The special guest presenter will be Lisie Kitchel, Conservation Biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and expert on Wisconsin's native mussels.
You will learn about Wisconsin’s diverse, yet hidden treasure, the freshwater mussel / clam. Learn all about our state’s 50 native species, their fascinating life cycle, relationship with fish, and amazing contributions to the history of Wisconsin, from food to buttons to pearls. You are guaranteed to come away with a greater appreciation of these unique animals, their role in water quality, and their beauty.
Lisie Kitchel works in the Bureau of Natural Heritage Conservation in the DNR. She is trained as an aquatic ecologist, and spends most of her time chasing and documenting mussels in the lakes, rivers and streams of Wisconsin. She enjoys nothing more than ‘enlightening’ folks to the world of the freshwater mussel.
