Phil's Woods is a 36-acre natural resource area named for Philip LaFollette, three-time Governor of Wisconsin. His widow, Isabel LaFollette, donated Phil's Woods to the State of Wisconsin and the property was passed on to Dane County Parks as it was too small for a state park. Natural woods and meadows offer hiking trails and scenic vistas including views of the Baraboo Bluffs from the western field.
Phil's Woods can be reached by driving west on US Highway 12 from Madison and south 1.25 miles on Dunlap Hollow Road. Watch carefully for the sign, as access is somewhat rustic.
